I've always love crossing the borders to Msia, especially when it's a visit to my grandma's house. This time round, I love it more because Redbull finally decided to tag along just to make me happier. After this trip, I grew greedier, secretly wishing he'd go with my family & I every time. But well, of course I'm not going to constantly pester him to go, it must be according to his own wishes that would make the trip meaningful.

Anyway, due to Qing Ming Jie, everyone was making their way to Msia so we were stuck in the traffic for more than an hour or so. But, the journey was more tolerable because of the companion and random conversations accompanied by loud roars of monstrous laughter.

Yeap, booked a private car for the 6 of us.

Lying on his flabby arms while watching the never-ending line of vehicles.

'No honking' sign which was ignored blatantly right at the custom's authorities' faces; all the impatient motorcyclists summoned all their energy to honk with all their might until the authorities opened another lane for them to pass through.
Talk about teamwork.

This faceless lone ranger.

Night time must-do activity is to visit the pasar malam for all the goodies. We ate non-stop the moment we embarked on the trail of food. Practically non-stop. We kept our eyes affixed to the two rows of stalls, hurling 'STOP' to the rest of us whenever any one of us saw something we wanted to eat.
Beancurd, cheese fries, ice-kachang, peanut mochi, fried chicken, fish cake drenched with sweet chili, taiwan chicken bun, fried sweet potato balls, carrot-cake, cheese tofu tarts...

The amount of calories gained that night.

This is the first time we saw this stall, must be new bird. RM7 for a generous portion.

Right after dinner was a search for Redbull's crabs. Spent close to 40 mins searching for his crabs, we all grew restless & tired. But at the very least, the crabs we found were satisfactory, ELSE...

Too little time to eat & shop. It'd be better if we've stayed till Sunday night instead of heading back to SG right after sao mu the next morning. Well, at least we had a sumptuous breakfast consisting of nice dim sum & dried kousong mee before letting the heat consumed us during sao mu

When you grow genuinely together as one, you find yourself compromising (we said to accompany each other for sao mu on every alternate year. Soon, it'll have to be arranging visiting during CNY), changing, setting goals together with another half. I always say I'm bless and don't ever doubt me when I say so. I may say "I'm tired of this" or somewhere along those lines when we get into a huge argument. But saying that doesn't mean I retract all my feelings towards how I've always feel, I'm just directing "I'm tired" towards that moment during the argument.

Anyway, here's my gross looking heels after the foot mask. The process may be displeasing to the eyes, but the outcome is what's worth it.

Wishing time could fast forward to Saturday where Redbull will be spending quality time with my family & I over at JB. He has missed out on so many past visits to my grandma's and he's finally going with us this time round. The feeling of felicity has stuck with me since the moment he said he's going to JB with me.
You know that's indeed the happiest moment when you feel that happiest is an understatement. Exactly my sentiment on Sunday when I made a memorable trip to my grandma's old house with my siz, Heroine & Janice. Then I was the happiest me, with no worries, no burdens, no complexities.

A memorable trip to the place filled with my childhood memories. Every single lane that leads to every single familar path. With every step I took, images of my childhood came flooding my mind like a TV show on repeat, except mine wasn't appearing visually, it was mental recollections. Mental recollections, that's all I have left of the past.

The lady boss of my favorite mama shop, the uncle who delivers gas to households, the granny who is still selling roasted meat & the next door indian neighbour. All these faces, they remained. It's like nothing has changed yet everything isn't the same anymore.

What seizes my heart was the fact that they still remember us just like we do. I'm searching frantically for words to describe the emotions swirling within me at that moment when they expressed their recollections of us, of my grandma. They still remember my grandma who is unable to do the same due to her senile condition.

Right now, I still tear at the thought of this trip because aside from vividly reminding me of my happiest phase, it reminds me of how my grandma is compelled under the circumstances of life, to forget about all these memories we've had together.
I long to relive my childhood not for the sake of my own happiness, but to bask in the idea of having a grandma who remembers me by my name, who scolds me when I sneakily plucked the leaves of her plants to burn, who brings me along for her morning walks, who buys me breakfast after her walks even if I've made her angry the previous day.

For once, I yearn for time to rewind not to change the outcome of my decisions or to simply feel happy but just to have a grandma who is healthy & calls my name, loud & clear.
Redbull's annual family trip to Malacca is here again which simply means bucketful of food, food & food (which I didn't take a single picture of). Waking up at the wee hours to cross over the borders was a feat but staying awake wasn't especially when I only caught a wink for 4 hours the night before. Nevertheless, this innocent morning face of Joshua's woke our sleepy nerves temporarily.

First meal at 6AM
(I only had a few wanton. Never liked the wanton mee. Also, it was too early.)
For this year, I thought we were going to have a change of place for breakfast at 6AM but no nearby coffee shop was opened except for this, again. Bet the majority who came here was left with no other choice for the same reason as their wanton mee really doesn't taste nice, at all

The book for the trip.

Always a sleeping beauty.

All chirpy once he has had ample sleep.

Second meal at lunchtime before heading to the church.
Horfun
Fried wanton
Fat & juicy char siew
Steamed chicken
Stir-fried beansprouts

To Tan Kim Hock where we saw Mr Tan himself sitting on a stool watching money rolling in, hahaha.
Redbull: "This is the last piece in this shop."
Joshua: "Yes, this is how popular i am."

The hotel we stayed in, Ramada Plaza. Hopefully we'll stay in this hotel next year so I can use the gym & pool. Fanatic girl.

Enjoyed the comfort of the room's bed & sofa before exploring the hotel's surroundings. THEN third meal at 3PM was chicken rice balls not because there was anything to rave about Malacca's chicken rice balls (it used to taste really nice when I had it years ago though) but it was merely because of Redbull's greediness for food.

Mass was at 730PM & we reached at 630PM.
The two lovelies lighting up the candles that were extinguished by the strong wind which was a sign for the after downpour.

Fourth meal was at 930PM after the mass at a zi char stall where we had
salted egg crabs
milky crabs
otah
potato leaves
cereal prawns
pork ribs
fu rong dan

Fifth meal (YES. 5 meals in 1 day!) was right after the zi char at this ulu back alley where they sell fresh cockles & lala AND the yummiest tahu rojak & cuttlefish rojak I've ever had! I bet the chilli & rojak sauce are the shop's secret recipes.

Imagine eating at a place surrounded by smells that aren't exactly flattering due to the drains and scattering rats searching for foo, yet the place is always filled with people? Yes, there must be real yummy deals around to be attracting the crowd despite the filthy dining place. Even Taiwan's 美食大三通 recommended this place as a must visit.

Second day: We woke up at 830AM and had our breakfast at a nearby coffeeshop before heading to Jonker Walk for a quick shopping spree.

Before leaving to JB custom, we had zichar for lunch again but ain't complaining cause the dishes at this new found place are delicious.

Ah, 2 days worth of good food swimming in my tummy...
